The science behind SkyCool?

The earth’s atmosphere is not only essential for breathing but important among its many functions is the ability to trap the sun’s heat or solar energy. To prevent overheating there is a natural “atmosphere to space” window through which some heat escapes into space under clear skies.

It is this natural heat-release window in the earth’s greenhouse which SkyCool uses to radiate a large portion of its heat directly into space. In bypassing the heating of the nearby atmosphere it acts like a “passive heat pump” removing heat from hot buildings day and night.

SkyCool and Leaky Roofs

SkyCool being about 0.5mm thick on a flat concrete surface, will penetrate the fine thermal cracks to create a smooth finish which will not crack due to its innate elasticity and the removal of the thermal-shock effect. It seals up those cracks thereby preventing water seeping into the concrete and rusting the reinforcing steel within.

The image was taken using a Flir Infrared Camera, whilst spraying a Sydney roof, showing the speed of the cooling effect being generated – the blue colour at the bottom of the image shows where SkyCool has been applied and indicates a significantly lower roof temperature.
